Pvt. Josiah/4k Brooks was born circa 1740.2 A Revolutionary soldier, he lived at Kittery, ME where 5 children were baptised.2,3 Probably the same who married, 18 Mar 1765 at Portsmouth, NH (South Ch. rec.), Lucy Baker.4 1 May 1775, "Isaiah" Brooks of Kittery there enlisted in Capt. Tobias Fernald's Company, Col. Scammon's regiment. [The fact that Josiah's brothers Samuel and William enlisted in the same unit at the same time strongly suggests that Josiah was the "Isaiah" of Kittery named in the unit's 1775 enlistment record.]5
Their 1790 census household at Kittery included Josiah and two females.6 He died at Kittery 16 Aug 1814, "aged about 75."2,7
