Mary (Polly) Hammond, of Kittery, ME, there married, 20 [27, Stackpole] Jul 1809 (int. 3 Jun), William/5k Brooks of Kittery, son of Sgt. Samuel/4k Brooks and Olive Knight, with whom she had 6 children.2,3 Her sister Prudence married her husband's cousin, also named William/5k Brooks, the preceding year.1 In the 1850 census, Mary Brooks (a. 64, a widow) and unmarried daughter Sarah were boarding with Charles Spinney at Eliot, ME. Next door were Mary's son William Walker Brooks and his family.4

John Hanscom/5k Brooks was baptised 26 Jul 1790 at Kittery, ME.1 John H. Brooks, a. 28, "able to support himself," was living with his father Sgt. Samuel/4k Brooks at Eliot, 1820.2 The 1850 census recorded John H. Brooks (a. 60), his widowed sister Temperance Nelson (a. 56), and Charles W. Brooks (a. 22, relationship unknown) in John's household at Eliot, next door to his brother Abraham.3 He was unmarried.1
