       William/5k Brooks Jr., 2d so-named, was born 26 Sep 1786 (g.s.), and baptised 19 Oct 1786 at Kittery, ME.1,2 There he married, 30 Nov 1808 (int. 6 Nov, as William III), Prudence Hammond of Kittery, daughter of Joseph Hammond and Mary Fernald.3 His cousin William/5k Brooks married Mary Hammond, his wife's sister, the following year.4
     The 1850 census recorded William Brooks (a. 64, farmer, real estate $1500), Prudence (a. 60), Hannah (a. 26), Isaiah (a. 24, farmer), William (a. 22, joiner), Leander (a. 18, farmer) and Abraham (a. 9) in their household at Eliot, ME. This Isaiah may have been a nephew, but was probably not William's son; Abraham was probably a grandchild. Next door was their unmarried daughter Marcia ("Mashiur," a. 31) Brooks, presiding over a household of Brooks children, presumably an orphaned family of siblings and her cousins of some sort.5
     Prudence died 21 Jan 1865.6 William died 23 Apr 1877 (g.s.) at age 90.2 They are buried in Eliot.7
