Jeremiah/6k Brooks was born in Maine circa 1797.2 He married (int. 17 May 1823, Kittery, ME) Lucy Scriggins.1 The 1850 census recorded Jeremiah (a. 52, fisherman, real estate $100), Lucy (a. 53), and children Frances (a. 17), George (a. 15) and Horace (a. 13) in their household at Eliot. Next door was his brother Daniel's widow and her children.3 In 1860 he was still a fisherman at Eliot, with an additional $25 of p.e. recorded. With him were his widowed sister-in-law Elizabeth (Remick) Brooks (a. 62) and his son (George) Washington (a. 25, farmer). Unmentioned, for reasons unknown, was his wife Lucy.2
In 1870, their Eliot household consisted of Jeremiah (a. 72, laborer), Lucy (a. 78), and (grandsons?) Benjamin and William Brooks. Next door was Jeremiah's brother Abraham, and two doors further down, Jeremiah's cousin Thomas F. Brooks.4
Lucy died 6 Sep 1878, "81 yrs."5 In 1880 Jeremiah ("a. 92") was boarding in Eliot with Frederick and Frances Remick, a young couple, two doors down from Jeremiah's 1st cousin Alpheus H. Brooks.6 Jeremiah died 15 Nov 1880, "82 yrs." (g.s.).5 Jeremiah and Lucy are buried in Mt. Pleasant-Greenwood Cemetery, Eliot.7

Daniel/6k Brooks Jr. was born at Eliot, ME.2 He married, 29 Dec 1815, Elizabeth Remick of Eliot.1 He died before the 1850 census, when Betcy Brooks headed the household at Eliot, next door to his brother Jeremiah.3 His widow died 4 May 1873, "aged 76 yrs." (g.s.).4

Elizabeth Remick was born at Eliot, ME, circa 1797.1,2,3 She married, 29 Dec 1815, Daniel/6k Brooks Jr. of Eliot, son of Daniel/5k Brooks and Mary (Molly) Spinney, who died by 1850.4 The 1850 census recorded Betcy Brooks (a. 54), Charles (a. 27, laborer), Elizabeth (a. 18), and Walter (a. 15, attending school) in the household at Eliot. Next door was her brother-in-law Jeremiah Brooks.1 In 1860 she was housekeeping for Jeremiah and his son (George) Washington at Eliot.5 She died 4 May 1873, "aged 76 yrs." (g.s.).3 Buried with her children Charles H. and Walter T. in Eliot.3

Capt. Abraham/6k Brooks was born in Maine circa Sep 1809.2,3,4 There he married (1), 8 Feb 1838/9 at Eliot (int. 8 Dec, Kittery), both parties of Eliot, his 2d cousin Mary G/6k Brooks, daughter of William/5k Brooks and Prudence Hammond, with whom he had a son.1,5,6 She died 12 Jan 1841.7 He married (2), 14 Oct 1849, Eliza Jane Card , daughter of Archelaus Card and Hannah Mace, and widow of Theodore Lord.8,9,1
The 1850 census recorded Abraham Brooks (a. 41, sailor, real estate $1000), wife Eliza Brooks (a. 31), his widowed mother Mary Brooks (a. 75 [actually 80]), Leonard Spinney (a. 15, student), and Eliza's children James H. Lord (a. 11, student), and Mary Lord (a. 8, student) in the household at Eliot, next door to Abraham's brother John H. Brooks.2,4 In 1860 their Eliot household included Abraham (a. 51, farmer, r.e. $2,700, p.e. $185), Eliza (a. 40), Abraham's mother Mary (a. 85), Eliza's children James and Mary Lord, and four children ages 11 mos. to 9 years of the marriage between Abraham and Eliza.4 Abraham was farming at Eliot, 1866.10
The 1870 census recorded Abraham (a. 61, farmer, $4,000 r.e., $400 p.e.), Elisa J. (a. 51), their children Daniel, Hattie C., Andrew P., and Elbridge, and Eliza's son James Lord (a. 31, "idiot") in their Eliot household. Abraham's brother Jeremiah Brooks lived next door, and his presumed brother Thomas G. Brooks two doors down in the opposite direction.11
Abraham's wife Eliza died 20 Jul 1879.12 He died 4 Jan 1890 (g.s.), "80 y. 4 m."3 Buried with both wives in Eliot.3,7
