       Arthur L/9k Brooks was born 28 Jul 1877 at Eliot, ME.2,3 Recorded (a. 3) in his parents' 1880 census household at Newington, NH.2 Then in the U.S. Army, he married, a. 22, 11 Jan 1900 at Manchester, NH, Gertrude E. Sawyer of South Reading, VT, daughter of Alden J. Sawyer and Ada L. Dodge.1 He died 12 Aug 1957 at age 80.3

       Ann (Annie) Augusta Lewis was born in Maine 4 May 1847.3,1,4 There recorded (a. 3) with her widowed mother in the household of her uncle Samuel Spinney Jr. in the 1850 census.1 In 1860 Ann A. Lewis (a. 12, student) was living with her mother and grandmother Nancy Spinney in Eliot.5 She married, circa 1865, Alfred Langdon/8k Brooks of Eliot, son of Daniel Langdon/7k Brooks and Syrena Tetherly, with whom she had 11 children.3
     Alfred was farming at Eliot, 1872 and 1878, but removed to Newington, NH by 1879.6 There the 1880 census recorded their Newington household as Alfred (a. 38, farmer), wife Annie (a. 33), and children Wilmer (a. 14, farm laborer), Irving (a. 13, farm laborer), Alfred (a. 11, attending school), Victor (a. 8), Bernice (a. 5), Arthur (a. 3), and Annie (a. 6 mos., b. NH).7
     In the 10 Nov 1899 marriage record of their son Victor, she is mentioned as Annie A. Lewis, res. Newington, while Alfred was perhaps working in Eliot, as he was given as a resident there.8 The marriage record of their son Arthur, 11 Jan 1900, reported Alfred as a laborer at Portsmouth, NH.9 That year's census reported the household at Newington, consisting of Alfred (a. 57, farm owner), Annie A. (a. 52, married 34 yrs., 8 of 11 children living), and children Nellie F. (a. 18), Leroy H. (a. 12, student), and Essie R. (a. 8, student).3
     Alfred was killed accidentally 7 Dec 1902, at the Kittery, ME naval shipyard, "age 61-6-15," by the fall of a heavy timber on his head.10 Annie died 10 Feb 1912 at age 64.4
