Thomas Shaylor, of Haddam, CT, married, as her 2d husband, 1669, Marah/2 Spencer of Haddam, daughter of Ens. Gerard/1 Spencer and Hannah Hills, and widow of Thomas/1h Brooks, with whom he had 5 children.1,2 11 Apr 1670, Thomas Shaylor, present Husband of the Widow of sd. Brooks, was granted administration on the estate of Thomas Brooks.3 Thomas Shaylor was lost at sea circa 1692.4

Susanna/2 Arnold was born circa 1675.3,1 Daughter Susannah, aged 16 years in Mar 1691/2, received £10 in the probate of her father Joseph Arnold's estate, 30 Mar 1693.1 She married, 16 Nov [Barbour; Mar, Torrey] 1695/6 at Haddam, CT, Dea. Thomas/2h Brooks Jr. of Haddam, son of Thomas/1h Brooks and Marah/2 Spencer.4,5,6
His will, dated 24 Feb 1728/29, left to "Susannah, my wife, the use of my dwelling house, barn and shop, and all that part of land hereinafter given to my son Jabez for his portion, for and until he shall attain to the age of 21 years if he live so long, or till she shall be married again, which shall happen first. I also give her 1 weaving loom, together with half the tackling belonging to two looms, and if sd. Jabez arrive at the age aforesd, and she remain still my widow, I give her the use of one end of my dwelling house (which she shall choose), viz, two rooms, so long as she shall continue my widow. I give to my wife ye third part of all my moveable estate forever." Susanna and eldest son Thomas were named executors.7 Thomas Brooks died 6 Apr 1734.5,8

Susanna Hanford was born circa 1615 in Devonshire, England, and probably came to New England with her uncle Timothy Hatherly.2 She married (1), before 1640, John Whiston, with whom she had 6 children.3,1 She married (2), as his 2d wife, by 1664, William/1p Brooks.4,5 12 Dec 1664, "Susanna Brooks, wife of William Brooks of Scituate" and her children received £12 and a heifer in the will of Timothy Hatherly of Scituate, who added, "I acquitt her of her first husband's debt to mee."5,6 In 1665 "father-in-law" William Brooks and uncle Edward Jenkins (husband of Susannah's sister Lettice Hanford) assisted Joseph Whiston (eldest son and heir of John Whiston) in settling some of the realty of his father's estate. Joseph died in 1666, and Edward Jenkins was appointed guardian of John Whiston, Joseph's younger brother.7
