Joseph/3 Hapgood was born 2 Oct 1714 at Marlborough, MA.1 He married, 26 Apr 1739 at Concord, his 1st cousin Mary/4a Brooks of Concord, daughter of Lt. Hugh/3a Brooks and Abigail/3 Barker, with whom he had 6 children.2 The will of his mother-in-law, Abigail Brooks, 26 Jul 1751, named him executor.3 He lived at Marlborough, and died 3 Jun 1767 (g.s.) at age 52.4 His widow Mary died there 18 Sep 1807.5,6 They are buried in Spring Hill Cemetery.6 Joseph's gravestone reads, This Stone is Erected | in Memory of | Mr. Joseph Hapgood | Who was a kind husband, a tender | Parent & Charitable, Obliging Neighbor | he departed this life | June 5, AD 1767 | aged 52 years & 8 mo.6
"Inherited the homestead of his father, with the east half of his spacious farm in Marlboro'; selectman, 1758, 1763, 1764, 1766, 1767; assessor, 1766, and was a prominent and leading citizen; died intestate, June 5, 1767, while administering on the estate of his brother Thomas, late of Marlboro; and his wife Mary, July 28, 1767, was appointed administratrix, who concluded the settlement of both estates, November 1, 1768. Her husband's estate was inventoried at £387. 8s. 10d."7

Mary/4a Brooks was born 11 Jul 1714 at Concord, MA.1 There she married, 26 Apr 1739, her 1st cousin Joseph/3 Hapgood of Marlborough, son of Thomas/2 Hapgood and Judith/3 Barker, with whom she had 6 children.2 They lived at Marlborough, where he died 3 Jun 1767, intestate, "while administering on the estate of his brother Thomas, late of Marlboro; and his wife Mary, July 28, 1767, was appointed administratrix, who concluded the settlement of both estates, November 1, 1768."3 Mary died at Marlborough 18 Sep 1807, "at the advanced age of ninety-three, beloved, honored and respected."4,5 They are buried in Spring Hill Cemetery.5
