       Socrates/6g Brooks, a twin, was born in Massachusetts 26 May 1788.2 There reported with his parents at Deerfield, 1788 (as "Suretis").3 His parents settled about 1790/91 on the west green of what became Norwich, NY.4,5,6 He married, by 1814, Lucena Johnson.7 He and his brother Clitus appraised the estate of their father Thomas Brooks of Plymouth, NY, whose will was proven 9 Sep 1822.8,9 Socrates died on his father's farm, Plymouth, NY, 12 Aug 1841, at age 53.7,10 Buried in South Plymouth Cemetery.11
     His sons Cassius, Roswell and Jesse settled in Grant County, WI, where his widow died.12
