Melinda/5c Brooks, 2d so-named (also rec. as Melia), was born 21 Jul 1796 at North Haven, CT, and baptised the same year at the Episcopal church.2,1 Unmarried, she is probably the female 40-49 recorded in her brother Eli's household at Butternuts (later Morris), NY in the 1840 census.3 Recorded living alone ("Lina," a. 57) next to her father Lemuel at Morris in 1850.4

Eli/5c Brooks was born 30 Mar 1798 at North Haven, CT, and there baptised the same year at the Episcopal church.1,2 He married Sophronia Halbert of Butternuts (now Morris), NY.3,4 Their 1830 census household at Laurens, NY, included one male 30-39 (Eli), one male under 5 (son Lemuel), one female 20-29 (Sophronia), and one female under 5 (dau. Lovinia).5 Their 1840 household at Butternuts included two males 5-9 (sons Lyman and George), one male 10-14 (son Lemuel), one male 40-49 (Eli), and one male 80-89 (his father Lemuel); two females under 5 (daus. Sally and Anzonetta), one female 10-14 (dau. Lovinia), one female 30-39 (Sophronia), and one female 40-49 (probably Eli's unmarried sister Melinda).6 In 1850, Eli (a. 52, farmer, real estate $5000), Sophronia (a. 48) and 7 children ages 7-22 were living in his father's household at Morris, next door to Melinda.7 There Eli died 9 Nov 1858 (g.s.) at age 60.3,4 There Sophronia died 6 Jun 1882.3 They are buried in Harmony Church Burying Ground.3,4

Jerusha), two females 10-14 (daus. Eliza and Emily), and one female 40-49 (wife Annis).5
He married (2) Sarah C. (–?–), who died at Butternuts in 1855.3 The 1850 census recorded Bela (a. 49, farmer, real estate $7000), Sarah (a. 37), six children ages 4-23, and (tenant?) farmer John Watkins (a. 22, b. England) in their household at Morris.6 Annis and Sarah are buried in Harmony Church Burying Ground, Morris, but his stone is not recorded there.3

William Riley/5c Brooks was born 28 May 1806 at North Haven, CT.1,2 Of Butternuts (now Morris), NY, he married (1) his 1st cousin Hannah/5c Crittenden, daughter of Jeremiah Crittenden and Mary/4c Brooks.3 The 1850 census recorded William (a. 43, farmer, estate $5700), Hannah (a. 41), and sons Erastus and Edwin in their household at Morris.4 Hannah died 8 Mar 1867.3,5 He married (2) Eliza A. (–?–), who died at Butternuts 10 May 1881.3 There he died 5 Sep 1888, a. 82-3-7 (g.s.).3,6 He and Eliza are buried in Harmony Church Burying Ground, Morris. Hannah's cenotaph there indicates she died at Clinton, IA.3,6
