Elizabeth Symons or Simmons, 1st wife of Gilbert Brooks, was probably daughter of Moses, born at Leyden, Holland, with the Dutch name of Symonson, early shortened to Simmons, who came to New England on the Fortune in 1621. Savage identifies only his sons Moses of Duxbury and Thomas, who was at Scituate, MA by 1646.1 Elizabeth married, as his 1st wife, by 1645, Gilbert/1p Brooks of Scituate, Marshfield and Rehoboth, with whom she had 9 daughters, all of whom lived to marry.2,3 Buried at Rehoboth 17 Jul 1687.3,4 A large monument in the Winslow Cemetery, Marshfield, dedicated to the early settlers of Green Harbor, names Gilbert Brooks and wife Elizabeth.5

Elizabeth/2p Brooks was baptised with her sister Sarah 21 Jun 1646 at the Second Church, Scituate, MA.1,2 She married, by 1663, Francis/2 Stevens Jr. of Rehoboth, son of Francis/1 Stevens and Sarah Bisbee.2 She died at Rehoboth 4 Mar 1675, six days after the birth of their 6th child, at age 28.3

Sarah/2p Brooks was baptised with her sister Elizabeth 21 Jun 1646 at the Second Church, Scituate, MA.1,2 She married (1), by 1668, Thomas/1 Grant, a Scottish prisoner of the English Civil War who had been sold into servitude in New England in 1652.2 He was buried at Rehoboth, MA, 12 Jun 1690.3 There she married (2), 5 Dec 1692, Samuel Lyon.2,4 The will of her father Gilbert Brooks, 6 Jun 1695, left "my nine daughters an equal share of my estate after my decease."2,5 In the executors' account of 15 Jul following, Sarah Lyon has been paid her legacy of £7-13.2,5

Mary/2p Brooks was baptised 15 Jul 1649 at the Second Church, Scituate, MA.2 She married, 19 Nov 1669 at Dedham, Nathaniel/2 Colburn (Colman, NEHGR) Jr. of Dedham, son of Nathaniel/1 Colburn and Priscilla Clarke.2,3 The will of her father Gilbert Brooks, 6 Jun 1695, left "my nine daughters an equal share of my estate after my decease."2,4 In the executors' account of 15 Jul following, "Mary Colebond as yet will not receive any portion but rather shows dislike of the will."2,4 She died at Dedham 21 Apr 1708 at age 58.5

Rachel/2p Brooks was baptised 7 Jul 1650 at the Second Church, Scituate, MA.1,3 She married, by 1672, James Wiggins.3,4 Her father's will of 6 Jun 1695 leaves "daughter Rachel's share to Grandson Benony Wigin."3,5 The executors' account of 15 Jul following notes, "and as to Rachel another daughter being at Long Island we have as yet no opportunity to pay her anything..."3,5 Rachel reportedly died at Southold, Long Island.6
