       Joseph/2 Merriam Jr. was born circa 1629 in Kent, England.2 Bequeathed £6 in the will of his uncle Robert Goldstone, 10 Apr 1637.1 He emigrated with his parents to New England, Jul 1638, where they settled at Charlestown, MA.1,3 Raised at Concord, he went as a young man to Cambridge, where he lived in the section called "The Farms," which afterward became the parish and town of Lexington.2 There he was admitted to the church, and admitted a freeman 22 May 1650.4,2 He married, 12 Jul 1653 at Concord, Sarah/2 Stone, daughter of Dea. Gregory/1 Stone.5 Named as a debtor in the inventory of Thomas Flint of Concord, 9 Nov 1653.6 He died 20 Apr 1677 (rec. Concord), "aged 47 years."7 Buried in the Hill Burying Ground, Concord.8 His widow died at Lexington 8 Apr 1704.9,10
     "He accumulated something of a property for the times, as appears from the inventory of his estate and from the subsequent division. … The property remained undivided many years after his death, and was then [29 Nov 1700] distributed in a kindly and equitable manner" between the widow and 8 surviving children.2 For the division of property, see Pope, Merriam Genealogy, 44-45.2

       Abigail/2 Merriam was born 15 Jul 16(47?) at Concord, MA.1 There she married, as his 1st wife, 25 Apr 1672, Sgt. Thomas/3w Bateman Jr. of Concord, son of Thomas/2 Bateman and Martha/2w Brooks.2 Daughter Abigail Bateman is mentioned in her father's will, 8 Oct 1675.3 She died at Concord 14 Jul 1684.4 Thomas Bateman married twice more and died at Concord 6 Oct 1727.5,6

       Sarah/2 Stone was born circa 1633, probably in England.1 She married, 12 Jul 1653 at Concord, MA, Joseph/2 Merriam Jr., son of Joseph/1 Merriam and Sarah/1 Goldstone.2 He died at Concord 20 Apr 1677.3 She died 8 [town rec; 5, g.s.] Apr 1704 at Lexington, and was buried 8 Apr in Robbins Cemetery there.4,5 Shattuck erroneously gives her last name as "Stow."

       Sarah/3 Merriam was born 2 Aug 1654 at Concord, MA.1 Then of Cambridge, she married (1), as his 2d wife, 14 Jun 1688 at Concord, Eleazer/3 Ball of Concord, son of Nathaniel/2 Ball and Mary Wayne.2 He died at Concord 15 Nov 1698.3 There she married (2), as his 2d wife, 7 Jun 1699, Samuel/3 Fletcher of Chelmsford, son of Ens. William/2 Fletcher and Lydia ?Fairbanks.4 She died at Chelmsford 29 Apr 1703 at age 48.5
