       Humphrey/1 Barrett was born in England circa 1592.1 There he married Martha Mary Wheeler.2 He settled, 1639, at Concord, MA, "where he had a farm of three hundred acres and a 'house lot' of twelve acres near the centre of the town." Shattuck says he "settled where Abel B. Heywood now [1835] lives."2,3 Admitted a freeman of Concord, 6 May 1657.4 There he died 7 Nov 1662.5 There his widow died 15 Aug 1663.6

       Martha Mary Wheeler was born 25 Nov 1608 at Cranfield, Bedfordshire, England.1 She married, in England, Humphrey/1 Barrett.2 He died 7 Nov 1662 at Concord, MA.3 There she died 15 Aug 1663 at age 54.4

       Dea. Humphrey/2 Barrett Jr. was born in England circa 1630.1,2 He emigrated to New England with his parents, who settled at Concord, MA in 1639.1 There he married (1), 17 Jul 1661, Elizabeth Paine.1,3 In the 1666 tax list, he lived at Abel Heywood's place in the North Quarter.4 His taxes were abated that year on 11 lots, 316 acres in Concord's North District.4 In 1672 he was one of a committee presenting the selectmen with 17 articles of instruction.5
     His wife Elizabeth died at Concord 21 Dec 1674.6 There he married (2), 23 Mar 1674/75, Mary/2 Potter, daughter of Dea. Luke/1 Potter and Mary/2 Edmunds.7 Admitted freeman of Concord, 24 May 1682.8 Witnessed the will of Capt. Timothy/1 Wheeler of Concord, 1 Mar 1686/87.9,10 Deputy to the General Court, 1691.11 Named overseer, 20 Apr 1691, with Steven Willis of Medford, in the will of Mary/2a Brooks Wheeler of Concord, and each provided 10s. for the task.10,12 His wife Mary died at Concord 17 Nov 1713.13 Ensign of the trainband and deacon, Humphrey Barrett died at Concord 3 Jan 1715/16 ("aged 86 yrs.", g.s.).14,15 Buried there with his 2d wife.14,16
     Concord's 1666 tax list notes Richard Temple in the North District "near Barrett's Mills." Since Humphrey was the town's only Barrett poll at the time, the mills appear to have been his.4

       Mary/2 Potter was born circa 1656 (g.s.) at Concord, MA.1 There she married, as his 2d wife, 23 Mar 1674/75, Dea. Humphrey/2 Barrett Jr. of Concord, son of Humphrey/1 Barrett and Martha Mary Wheeler.2 Daughter Barrett, "already given to," is mentioned in her father's will, 11 Jun 1695.3 She died at Concord 17 Nov 1713 ("in her 58th year," g.s.).4 There he died 3 Jan 1715/16.5,6 They are buried together in Concord.5,7

       Capt. Joseph/3 Barrett was born 31 Jan 1678/79 at Concord, MA.1 There he married, 24 Dec 1701, Rebecca/4a Minot of Concord, daughter of Dr. James/3 Minot and Rebecca/3a Wheeler, with whom he had 8 children.2 (Their siblings Capt. Benjamin/3 Barrett and Lydia/4a Minot also married.). He was town treasurer, 1734–39, and captain of the trainband.3,4 His wife died at Concord 23 Jun 1738.5 There he died 4 Apr 1763 at age 84.6
     A farmer, he lived with his father, says Shattuck, "where Abel B. Haywood now [1847] lives."7 He was one of the original grantees of Grafton, MA, but never lived there.4
