       Henry Wakeley was born in 1620 in Gloucester, England.² Of Hartford and Stratford, CT, he married, as her 2d husband, Sarah/2 Burt of Springfield, MA, daughter of Henry/1 Burt and Ulalia/1 Marche, and widow of Judah Gregory.^3,4 His will, dated 11 Jul 1689, names wife Sarah, three sons, and three daughters.³ Jacobus reports his death at Stratford the same day of his will.²

       Nathaniel/2 Burt was baptised "on or after" 27 Mar 1638 at Harberton, Devonshire.¹ The family emigrated to New England, sojourning briefly at Roxbury before moving on to Springfield, where he took the oath of fidelity, 23 Mar 1655/56.² There he married, 15 Jan 1662/63, Rebecca/2 Sikes, daughter of Richard/1 Sikes and Phebe (–?–).^3,4 With his brother Jonathan fined 6d for nonattendance at a town meeting 11 Apr 1665.⁵ 2 Feb 1668/69, signed a petition with brother Jonathan protesting the Crown's imposition of customs upon goods being exported into and from Massachusetts Bay Colony.⁶ Took the freeman's oath at Springfield, 1 Jan 1678/79.⁷ Received, in his mother's will, 27 May 1684, of which he was executor with brother Jonathan, her great brass kettle and four acres in the 'forral Lotte' to bestow upon his son Henry at his decease.⁸ Nathan^ll. Burt Sen^r. of Springfield again took the freeman's oath 19 Dec 1690.⁹ They lived in that part of Springfield which became Longmeadow, where Rebecca died 28 Jan 1711/12 at age 70.⁴ There he died 29 Sep 1720 at age 82.^1,10,4
     Nathaniel Burt gave land for the erection of a school, about which Henry S. Burt writes: "He had no example; there had been no gifts to suggest such an act on his part. His own limited opportunities, his experience in business life, no doubt brought to his mind the importance of better public schools, and his gift of land to Longmeadow for educational purposes, was the very first made in this part of New England. At that time, or shortly prior to it, only very few of the residents could write their names when signing public papers. No less than five selectmen made their marks, and among the number was Nathaniel Burt. This need not, however, lessen the respect of his descendants for him. He was evidently a man of ability or he would not have been on the board of selectmen."¹¹

       David/2 Burt was baptised 18 Oct 1629 at Harberton, Devonshire.¹ A founder of Northampton, MA, where he married, 18 Nov 1655 (the first marriage recorded there), Mary Holton.^2,3 Henry Woodward of Northampton was credited with £4-13-2 paid on the county tax rate by David Burt at Springfield, 22 Dec 1674.⁴ His mother's will, 27 May 1684, left son David my oldest yoke of cattle and my old brafse pan.⁵ He died at Northampton 6 Sep 1690 at age 60.⁶ His widow m. (2) Joseph Root, and died in 1718.¹

       Rebecca/2 Sikes, b. Roxbury, was baptised 9 May 1641 at Dorchester, MA.^1,2 She married, 15 Jan 1662/63 at Springfield, Nathaniel/2 Burt, son of Henry/1 Burt and Ulalia/1 Marche.^3,2 They lived in that part of Springfield which became Longmeadow, where she died 28 Jan 1711/12 at age 70.² There he died 29 Sep 1720.^4,5,2 Buried in Longmeadow Cemetery.²

       Rebecca/3 Burt was born 10 Dec 1665 at Springfield, MA.^2,1 She married, as his 1st wife, 29 Jan 1690 at Springfield, Charles/2 Ferry Jr. of Springfield, son of Charles/1 Ferry and Sarah/2 Harmon, with whom she had a son.^3,4 Her grandmother's will, 27 May 1684, left granddaughter Rebecca my Scarfe and my Cambricke Necke clothe, Also the Yarn and Wool and Tow to make a coverlet I give to fd Rebeca and the Pillow at the Medow.⁵ She died 12 Feb 1691/92 at age 26.^6,7

       David/3 Burt was born 20 May 1668 at Springfield, MA.^2,1 He married (1), 28 Jun 1706 at Enfield, CT, Martha Hale of Enfield, daughter of Dea. Thomas Hale and Priscilla Markham.³ She died in 1714.⁴ He married (2) (int. 2 Jul 1715, Springfield) Joanna/3 Dibble, daughter of Samuel/2 Dibble and Hepsibah Bartlett, and widow of William/2 Allen of Suffield, with 7 children.⁴ He died 5 Jul 1735 (g.s.) at age 67.^5,4 His widow died 4 May 1741.⁴ David and Joanna are buried in Longmeadow Cemetery.⁴

       Sarah/3 Burt, 2d so-named, was born in Apr 1675 at Springfield, MA.^2,1 There she married, 8 Feb 1693/94, Nathaniel/2 Horton of Springfield, son of Jeremiah/1? Horton and Ruth/2 Ely.^3,4 They settled at Somers, CT.
