Dea. Samuel/1 Chapin married, in England, Cisely Penney.1 26 Sep 1644, he was chosen to the first board of selectmen at Springfield, MA, which held office until 2 Nov 1646, when they were discharged at a town meeting.2 One of 16 petitioners for the establishment of a plantation at Stony River, now Suffield, CT, presented to the General Court of Massachusetts Bay, May 1670, and granted the following year. "Not one of the petitioners became a settler, but many of them labored faithfully for more than ten years to fill the complement of settlers, as required by the Grant."3 He died at Springfield, MA, 11 Nov 1675.4

Henry/2 Chapin was born in England circa 1630.2 He married, 15 Dec 1664 at Springfield, MA, Bethiah/2 Cooley, daughter of Ens. Benjamin/1 Cooley and Sarah (–?–).3 One of 16 petitioners for the establishment of a plantation at Stony River, now Suffield, CT, presented to the General Court of Massachusetts Bay, May 1670, and granted the following year. "Not one of the petitioners became a settler, but many of them labored faithfully for more than ten years to fill the complement of settlers, as required by the Grant."4 Chosen a selectman of Springfield, 5 Feb 1683.5
His wife Bethiah died at Springfield 9 Dec 1711.6 There he died 15 Aug 1718.6

Rowland/1 Thomas married, 14 Apr 1647 at Springfield, MA, Sarah/2 Chapin, daughter of Dea. Samuel/1 Chapin and Cisely Penney.1 13 Feb 1656, Lt. Abel Wright was granted 20 acres "that had formerly Come into the hand of Rowland Thomas" in the Chicopee Plain on the west bank of Connecticut River.2 Rowland Thomas was one of 16 petitioners for the establishment of a plantation at Stony River, now Suffield, CT, presented to the General Court of Massachusetts Bay, May 1670, and granted the following year. "Not one of the petitioners became a settler, but many of them labored faithfully for more than ten years to fill the complement of settlers, as required by the Grant."3 One of six men appointed by the Court, 12 Oct 1670, a committee to order the settlement of Stony River.4
