Jan (John)/4x Broek(s) or Brooks was baptised 24 Dec 1738 at the Dutch Reformed Church, Albany, NY, witnesses Zacharias and Gessie Haas.2,3,1 He married, 14 Jan 1769 at the Linlithgo Reformed Dutch Church, Livingston, NY, Janittje Van Salsbergen, daughter of Caspar Van Salsbergen and Catharina Bond(t).4 Jonathan, of Albany, probably the same, had a 1790 census household which included himself and two other males over 16, three males under 16, and four females.5
Valentine Van Zee reports that he and his wife died after Oct 1792, probably in Rensellaer County, NY.4 However, the Providence Journal of 16 Apr 1829 reports the recent Hist. Albany[: 3 Apr] death at Albany of a Jonathan Brooks, "in 91st year," which correlates with a 1738 infant baptism.6,7 Cutter gives a death date of 2 Apr 1829, and calls him Jonathan, son of Jonathan/3 and Rebecca Tatte, but his calculated birthdate does not fit that family's list of children.2
