Catharine Tobey was born in Maine circa 1812, perhaps at Kittery.1,2,3 She married, 13 Oct 1831, Thomas Floyd/6k Brooks of Eliot, son of Gideon/5k Brooks and Betsy Haven.4
The 1850 census recorded Thomas F. (a. 43, mason, real estate $700), Catherine (a. 38), and children Susan (a. 13), George (a. 17, joiner, attended school), Ann C. (a. 15, student), Ellen (a. 12, student), Sarah (a. 10, student), Olive (a. 7, student) and James (a. 6, student) in their household at Eliot.3
The 1860 census recorded Thomas F. (a. 53, mason, r.e. $0, p.e. $175), Catharine (a. 48), Anna C. (a. 24, store clerk), Ellen M. (a. 22, tailoress), Sarah A. (a. 19, factory operative), Olive E. (a. 17, student), James H. (a. 15, farmer, attended school), and Alice C. (a. 3) in their Eliot household.1
The 1870 census recorded Thomas (a. 63, brickmason), Catherine (a. 58), unmarried daughters Ann C. (a. 35) and Olive E. (a. 27) Brooks, and son James Brooks (a. 26, grocer) in their household at Eliot. Two doors down was Abraham Brooks and three doors down Jeremiah Brooks, presumed to be Thomas's brothers.2
