Lucy Berry was born circa 1766 (aged 72, Aug 1838).1 Of Buxton, ME, there she married, 27 Dec 1785 (Cong. Church rec.), Rev. Paul Coffin officiating, Samuel/4k Brooks of Buxton, probably the son of John/3k? Brooks and Bethiah Brown.2,3 A Revolutionary veteran and pensioner, Samuel died at Porter, ME, 14 Apr 1825.1,4 The name of Samuel Brooks 2d, a. 62, Mass. line, died April 1825, was included in an 1835 list of Revolutionary pensioners in Maine, followed by mention of unnamed widow of Samuel Brooks, a. 75, res. Porter.5
7 Aug 1838 at Fryeburg, ME, Lucy Brooks of Porter, aged 72, made an affidavit, signing by mark, that she was the widow of Samuel Brooks, a Revolutionary pensioner, and had remained such since the time of his death.6 17 Dec 1848, Lucy Brooks was inscribed on the pension roll of Maine at the rate of $96 per annum, and certificate of pension was issued.7,4 6 Apr 1855, Lucy made another declaration, again signing by mark, for the purpose of obtaining bounty land under the act of 3 Mar 1855, and prays that the award certificate be sent to her son, Asahel Brooks of Porter.1
