Edward/3 Stebbins was born 14 Apr 1656 at Springfield, MA.2,1 There he married (1), Apr 1679, Sarah/3 Graves of Hatfield, daughter of John/2 Graves and Mary/2 Smith, with whom he had 6 children.3,4 She died 12 Jun 1700.5 He married (2), as her 3d husband, 18 Oct 1701, Mary/2 Cooper, daughter of Lt. Thomas/1 Cooper and Sarah/1 Slye, and widow of Isaac/2 Colton.5 He died at Springfield 31 Oct 1712 at age 56.5
"Edward Stebbins, early in the spring of 1676, was taken by the Indians at Longmeadow, while he was with Samuel Bliss, his brother-in-law, and he was carried to the falls above Deerfield, and with a youth named Gilbert made his escape from the Indians and gave information of their place of residence, whereupon the English went and destroyed three hundred or more of them." (Contemporary historians take a different view of both the native losses in this "Battle of Turners Falls" — numbering countless women and children, but perhaps as few as 65 warriors — and the characterization of the fight as a great English victory.).5
