John/1 Miles

       John/1 Miles was born in England. He married (1), by 1639, Sarah (–?–).1,2 He emigrated to New England, where he was admitted a freeman of Massachusetts Bay 14 Mar 1638/39.3 Resident of Concord, 1640.2 Named as a debtor, 9 Nov 1653, in the inventory of Thomas Flint of Concord.4 His wife died at Concord 18 May 1678.1,5 There he married (2), "in his old age" [Shattuck], 10 Feb 1679, Susannah Reddit. Although he would then have been in his 60s, 3 children of this marriage are subsequently recorded.6,2 He died at Concord 26 Aug 1693.7 There his widow married (2), 10 Nov 1698, Lt. John Wilson of Billerica.8
     John Miles served on the 1663 committee to divide the town's South District and appears as one of 17 signers of a petition to the selectmen in 1672. 1666 tax records indicate he was taxed £3-17-2 on 23 lots comprising 459 acres in the town's South District.9

       John/2 Miles Jr. was born 20 Mar 1680 at Concord, MA.1 There he married, 16 Apr 1702, Mary/3 Prescott of Concord, daughter of Capt. Jonathan/2 Prescott and Elizabeth/3 Hoar.2 There he died 23 Oct 1725 at age 45.3 Buried in the Main St. Burying Ground.3 His estate was valued at £1,708.4
