Mary/3s Brooks was born 16 Aug 1696 at Deerfield, MA.1 With her parents and brother she was a victim of the French and Indians in the Deerfield Raid of 29 Feb 1703/4.2,3
At least 29 of 109 captives were killed on the forced march to Canada, but Rev. John Williams, in his account of the ordeal, says, "General Hoyt has procured the names of the principal part of the prisoners who were taken at Deerfield, and who were left in Canada after the return of Mr. Williams," and includes siblings William and Mary Brooks among the survivors in captivity.. However, "An Account of ye Desolation of Deerfield," contained in the Hampshire County Recorder's Book, in the handwriting of Samuel Partridge of Hatfield, names Mary and William Brooks among those "Slain in ye Fort."4,5,6,7
