John/2 Stone married, by 1640, Anne/2 How, daughter of Elder Edward/1 How and Margaret (–?–).2 He inherited two-sixths of the estate of his mother-in-law Margaret How under the terms of her will, proved 18 Dec 1660.3
Hudson's History of Sudbury notes: "John Stone came to Sudbury from Cambridge, and was son of Deacon Gregory Stone of that place. He was born in England, and accompanied his father to America. He married Ann, daughter of Edward Howe of Watertown, and had ten children, most of whom were born in Sudbury. He was at one time an elder in the church and in 1655 was town clerk. He was an early settler on land now in Framingham, and at one time owned land that is now included in Saxonville. It is supposed when the Indian war began he removed to Cambridge. He was representative of that town in 1682–83. He died May 5, 1683 at the age of sixty-four."4

Dea. Gregory/1 Stone was born in 1590, probably at Bromley Magna, Essex. (He was five years younger than his brother Simon, says Bond; and Simon gave his residence as Bromley Magna at the time of his 1635 emigration.).1,2 Gregory came to New England and settled at Watertown, MA, where his name is found on a list of 'townsmen then inhabiting' Watertown to whom grants of land were made, 28 Feb 1636/7.1 Freeman of Watertown, 25 May 1636.3 He moved to Cambridge about 1637/8.1
Gregory Stone sold his Watertown "house and ground" and four other lots to Nathaniel Sparhawk, agent of Thomas Boylston, cloth-weaver of London, in a deed of 30 Sep 1639.4 These lands were evidently bought for the accommodation of Thomas Boylston Jr. of Watertown, the buyer's son, and ancestor of Presidents John and John Quincy Adams.4 Gregory Stone married (2) Lydia (–?–).5 He died 30 Nov 1672, "82 y." (g.s.).6 His widow died 24 Jun 1674.5
He was a deacon of the Cambridge church, deputy in 1638, and a proprietor of Watertown. "Nothing is left to mark his last resting-place but a foot-stone, by the side of that of Elder John Stone, his son, on which may be traced the letters 'G.S.,' the initials of his name. Near by, may be seen the grave-stone of Deacon John Cooper, the son of Mrs. Gregory Stone by a former husband. Mrs. Gregory Stone (whom as the widow Cooper, Deacon Stone married in England) died June 24, 1674."7
