Ebenezer/3w Brooks was born 9 Dec 1666 at Woburn, MA.1 There he married, 14 Jun 1687, Martha Wilder of Woburn, perhaps, daughter of Edward Wilder and Elizabeth Ames, with whom he had 8 children at Woburn.3,4 In 1690 Ebenezer joined the Phipps Expedition against Quebec, and his wife, apparently without means of support, was forced to ask the town for assistance. "At a selectmen's meeting in Woburn, on Dec. 12, 1690, an account was made, in which 'The wife of Ebenezer Brooks received, when her husband was gone to Canada, by Samuel Blogget, Senior, ... 00.02.06.' In 1738, Jonathan Brooks, of Woburn, claimed in right of his uncle Ebenezer Brooks, the uncle's share in the lands granted to soldiers in the Canada Expedition of 1690, by the MA General Court."5
The family's hardships apparently continued for some years after his return from Canada. In 1696 the town first "forgave," in March, and then "erased," in November, his taxes due to "extreme poverty."5
Ebenezer and Martha Brooks sold their Woburn homestead, 3 Nov 1711, to John Buck, and subsequently removed to Connecticut.5 Ebenezer was a deputy from Killingly to the Connecticut General Courts of 13 Oct 1715, 14 Oct 1725, and 12 Oct 1727.6 2 Sep 1716, Rev. Mr. Fisk of Killingly's First Church baptised Ebenezer, Jabez, Eleazor, Martha, Eunice and Priscilla, children of Ebenezer Brooks.7,8 22 Sep 1716, Ebenezer Brooks and wife Martha were received into full communion.5
