       John/3s Steele was born 9 Mar 1707 at Springfield, MA.1 He married, 7 Mar 1727/28, his 1st cousin Abigail/3s Brooks, daughter of Benjamin/2s Brooks and Mary/3 Barnard.1 She died 12 Aug 1774.1 He died 21 Feb 1793, at the house of Ezra Stebbins in Longmeadow, at age 85.2

       John/2 Allen was born 29 Aug 1659 at Ipswich, MA.1 He removed with his father to Suffield, CT, circa 1679.2 There he had a grant of 40 acres, 1678, and was located at the ferry, 1704.3 There he married, 22 Feb 1681/82, Elizabeth Pritchard, daughter of William Pritchard and Hannah (–?–).4,5 They went by 1686 to Deerfield, MA, where he was killed by Indians 11 May 1704.6 The Suffield Historical Society reports that Elizabeth died at an unknown place the same day, but her death record is not found with John's.6

Edward/1 Allen

       Edward/1 Allen (Allyn), "according to tradition, came from Scotland, 1636; had been a soldier under Cromwell…."1 Had a farm granted him at Dedham, MA, 1649; freeman, 1666.1 He married, 24 Nov 1658 at Ipswich, MA, Sarah Kimball.2 In 1670 his Ipswich barn was struck by lightning and burned, consuming 60 loads of barley.1 He removed with his family to Suffield, CT circa 1679, where he had a grant of 60 acres the preceding year. "His farm was at the Ferry [1696], where Edward, John and William, three of his sons, had farms adjoining."1 One of 34 qualified voters at Suffield's first town meeting, 9 Mar 1681/82. His son Edward was admitted an inhabitant of Springfield, MA, 23 Dec 1684.3
     Mary Allen died at Suffield 12 Jun 1696.4 There Edward died 22 Nov following.1,5 Inventory, £256.1

       Abigail Severance was born 27 Apr 1696 at Deerfield, MA.1 There she married, 21 Jun 1716, John/3 Allen Jr., son of John/2 Allen and Elizabeth Pritchard.2,3,4 They lived in that part of Deerfield which became Greenfield, where he died 30 Nov 1761.2,5 There she died 17 Sep 1770.6
